Patient Information regarding antenatal and post-natal care
Antenatal
Specific antenatal information is given when a pregnant patient presents for the first time. As soon as you know you are pregnant, then please make an appointment to see your GP. They will then arrange a dating scan and refer you onto the midwives at the practice and the obstetricians at the hospital if necessary. Information about screening in pregnancy and other health advice is on offer.
According to the new NICE guidelines the pregnant patient is told by the doctor to book a double appointment (40mins) with the midwife at 9 weeks gestation. In this appointment the midwives will be doing the booking and blood tests. The doctor also gives the women an information pack.
Midwives have clinics at the practice on a Tuesday and a Friday. If a pregnant patient calls up with concerns or problems and the midwives are not at the practice, reception are to inform the patient to call the hospital (they should have the telephone no in their notes). Just In case it is Tel No. 01865 221696
Post Natal
After your baby is born, the midwives will see you at home initially. Then any help you need will be provided by the Health Visitors. They run a baby clinic on Monday afternoons at Bury Knowle, when you can drop in for advice. A 6 week baby check is recommended by your GP and an 8 week check for mum’s post natally.
